5 Social Media Trends We’re Keeping an Eye on for 2020
Social media is ever-evolving. That’s part of why we love it! Socially Inspired is committed to following the trends, shifts, ebbs, and flows of new features, and staying ahead of what’s to come. With a whole new decade on the horizon, there’s bound to be some huge shifts- and hopefully some actual hoverboards- eventually.
Here’s what we’re most excited for and what we’re going to be keeping an eye on.
1. Ad promotions on Instagram stories.
We’ve seen a rise in where ads are being placed. It’s easy to scroll right past any ad deal when on your normal feed. However, people are more likely to pay attention when it is placed with content already on your story. People are more likely to “swipe up” when ad deals become conversational. It increases the likelihood someone buys or checks out the product. Next time while you’re scrolling through your feed, check out your Instagram stories to find out what influencers are sharing.
2. IGTV starts to grow
We’re sure you’ve seen a link or two bring you to the “IGTV” page of an influencer. Here, they can publish full videos without linking back to another website. It’s easily accessible on the Instagram app to move from feed to video. It increases views, gives direct diametric of who is watching, and it’s user-friendly for all who scroll. We will start to see more people check out this feature as they see how solid it is for all who view it.
3. Location-based advertisement and outreach
Have you ever seen an ad that seemed to directly target you based on location alone? Social media sites alike are starting to track location, so they can better target other locations or users to your specific location. This can inspire you to check out a new coffee shop, restaurant or boutique. You might just find your new favorite place with this social media outreach!
4. TikTok reaches Vine nostalgia
Do you remember the 7-second video platform that was Vine? It has since gone away, but a new contender has taken its spot for short-term, interactive content. This app introduces new content each time you swipe up, with ad videos perfectly placed every 5 or 6 new videos. An astonishing amount of content is uploaded daily, and there is always something new to watch. New influencers are emerging as well as another platform for already established influencers to grow on. We see this app encompassing an older audience as well as more downloads in the coming year. TikTok is one to watch.
5. Augmented Reality
Last, but not least, we see an increase in apps that quickly rise and fall, while taking social media by storm. Each time Snapchat releases a new filter: we’re all quick to know. The way messages carry across come with great ease with a quick send are proof of how a good filter takes off. This, along with new apps, such as FaceApp, can alter your face to look like a celebrity, older, younger, and even match you to a famous painting. The downloading and publishing of these apps encourage the photo itself to be shared. More apps, more filters, and the publishing of these will face yet another increase.
Of course, there are sure to be some unexpected apps, and maybe even the exit of tried and true tech, but if you keep an ear to the ground and a close eye on your audience, 2020 trends can help you achieve your marketing goals - and we’re here to help
